Go Zero

With global warming awareness the question arises "What we can do to help off set the carbon dioxide emissions that we create with every day living"? The electricity we use in our homes, the gas it takes to get to work, shipping goods from one place to another. Making a conscious effort to reduce the use of energy is a huge step in minimizing carbon dioxide emissions, but the reality is we are a culture that relies heavily on energy to get us through the day. The Conservation Fund's Go Zero program makes it easy and affordable for anyone including corporations, and communities to measure their carbon dioxide and then offset those emissions by planting trees. Since 1985 the Conversation Fund has been dedicated to protecting America's most important landscapes and waterways for future generations. Working together with contributors, nearly 6 million acres of wildlife habitat, working farms and forests, community green space, and historic sites have been protected. The idea is simple, measure up how much energy is used in everyday use, how much energy it will take to provide shipping a box to your home, or how much energy will be used to enjoy a family vacation and contribute a donation to replace trees to off set those carbon dioxide emissions. For more information about the Go Zero program and how to calculate emissions go to: http://www.conservationfund.org/gozero

3 tips we can do effortlessly do to cut down on emmissions and save valuable resources
1) Buy products produced in the United States and produced here locally. Minimizing the amount of fuel it takes to ship goods from far away places.

2) Reduce the amount of running water we use daily

3) Turn off lights in rooms not being used.

We can make a difference on our own.

Bear Butte State Park
Stugis, SD

Considered one of the most sacred Mountains to Plains Indians here in the US and Canada, and one that anyone can visit, this mountain is both beautiful and powerful. Located near Sturgis SD it stands out all by its self. Take a moment to visit this mountain and you will be engulfed by the intense energy that emanates from it. Its no wonder Native Americans regard this as holy ground where they hold ceremonies, meditations, and pray. I visited this mountain last summer and was taken aback by its beauty and the energy that surrounds it. There is trail that winds up the side of the mountain. On the way up the trail you will see colorful prayer cloths and small pouches hung in the tree branches during worship. Staying on the trail is a must.

If you are wondering where to go this summer for a vacation consider visiting Bear Butte. You will be touched by it in a very special way.

Mount Shasta, Northern California

Nearly everyone who sees Mount Shasta for the first time is struck by the beauty and majesty of this solitary snow-capped mountain. Named after the Shasta Tribe of Native Americans, Mount Shasta, in the last few decades has become known locally as one of the “Seven Sacred Mountains of the World” although you will not find this written anywhere. With the mountain peak reaching 14,161 feet this beautiful mountain can be seen from many, many miles away and is most known for its spectacular cloud formations especially in the fall and spring. Thanks to three books written in the early 20th century, A Dweller on Two Planets, Lemuria, and Unveiled Mysteries, Mount Shasta’s reputation was established as a most unusual and sacred mountain.

Help Establish a United States Department of Peace

The primary function of a United States Department of Peace will be to research, articulate and facilitate nonviolent solutions to domestic and international conflict. The legislation was re-introduced into the House of Representatives (H.R. 3760) and introduced for the first time into the Senate (S. 1756) this past September.
Thousands of citizens around the nation are working to support this legislation, organized by The Peace Alliance ( http://www.ThePeaceAlliance.org ).

The Department of Peace will facilitate the most cutting edge ways to wage peace. From nonviolent communication skills, to conflict resolution techniques and cultural relationship building, the Department of Peace will employ proven and effective strategies for diminishing violence in our country and in our world. As a member of the President's cabinet, the Secretary of Peace will provide the President; the State Department; the Departments of Defense, Education and Justice with greatly expanded problem solving options. The Department of Peace will also provide support for state and local government to address issues of domestic violence.
